Ladies
Auxiliary
The ‘women
behind the men', the backbone of the industry, whose
support, hard work and sacrifice make success
possible for many showmen past and present.
The
auxiliary's founding purpose was to foster
friendship and support for one another. Camaraderie
is essential for these ladies who spend so much time
away from home.
As they became
more organized they began creating ways to achieve
their goal.
Every year through rummage and bake sales, dinners,
raffles and various special events, money is raised
and contributed to many varied organizations such
as:
- The Daily
Bread Food Bank
- Hamilton General Hospital Burn Unit
- Princess Margaret Hospital
- Foster Parents Plan
- Epilepsy Association
- Bloorview Children's Hospital
- Dr. Rygel's Home for the Mentally Retarded
- Interval Participation House
- Mount Carmel Church
- The Showmen's League Fund
The Ladies Auxiliary – Canadian Chapter was formed
on March 25th, 1963. Their first official meeting on
that date took place at the King Edward Hotel in
Toronto. Forty one years later and it is still going
strong.
